Kennesaw, Georgia is best known as the site of a major Civil War battle, and today the Kennesaw Mountain National Battlefield Park provides the area with an invaluable historical, educational, and recreational resource. The well-maintained trails of the park make it a popular destination for local runners, hikers, and cyclists. Picnic areas, a museum, and a dog-friendly park policy also make it a popular destination for family outings in Cobb County.

History buffs will be right at home in Kennesaw, where in addition to the historic battlefield park, the city also boasts the Southern Museum of Civil War and Locomotive History. The museum is home to The General, the locomotive which played a key role in the Great Locomotive Chase.  The area around Kennesaw is also a major retail hub with Town Center Mall, numerous restaurants, and many major retail chain stores located along Barrett Parkway on the southeast part of the city
